Very unprofessional and disappointing

In February I had purchased a Niveau 1 workshop that would start in April. After the confirmation of payment, I had received an email that more details will follow up in an email. I was really looking forward to it, I blocked all my Saturdays in April in my calendar.

Fast forward to one day before the course, I realized I had never gotten that email with more details so I decided to send them a mail. The reply was that unfortunately the class is cancelled because only 2 people had signed up. The choice was between following up another course in May or refund, but since I already made plans in May up that point since April was "booked", I opted for the refund. I guess if I had never sent that email, I would just have made a trip that Saturday and be sent back.

I made the payment through PayPal so it takes 2-5 business days to be refunded. I waited and after that period I sent a kind reminder. They've replied that they already refunded me, but I received nothing, so I kept on waiting. I had sent another reminder, but no reply. I asked for a status update, a proof of that refund being made at least. The reply was that "I will check now and send you the confirmation". Now never came so more kind reminders were sent.

There was always the vague reply of "we refunded you through PayPal". At this point, their word did not hold any trust in my eyes. I just wanted a proof that at least they attempted to do the refund. I resorted to sending my own proof of payment from February from PayPal just so that they have the courtesy of doing the same.

11 mails and some weeks later, at 22 in the evening I get an automatic mail from Shopify with the refund. I open it, and well..out of 470 euros, I get back only 397. My patience had just run out at that point so I sent an email regarding that, I was ready at that point just to take it to the consumer's protection service, but I attempted one last effort of diplomacy.

Behold that at 7 in the morning I get another automatic mail from Shopify with the refund and at the same time an email from them with "As i told you , we did the refund trough the application and it will take a little time " and that the taxes are separate.

Why they felt the need to lie to me in an era where everything is at a search away is beyond me. They said they made the refund on April 11, Paypal states when the refund is made and processed. Shopify offers the option for partial or full refund and the seller can choose between that. Everything is automatic and time stamped. This made them seem so unprofessional.

This kind of behavior is what makes a company unreliable. It was such a disappointing experience from a company that "looks" very professional. I'd never buy a course from them again. I don't question their skills, but in this day and age skills mean 0 if the behavior that accompanies it's like that.

I hope I am an isolated case at least...

Later edit just because the company can't take any form of feedback that's not positive:

Having the client send you kind reminders each and every time does not mean you responded to all the mails so I find myself forced to attach a screenshot of our mail timelines.

Own up to it and just try to offer better customer service in the future. Getting feedback and reviews is part of having a business and it's not always going to be positive! My feedback is not "excessive", it's just detailed.

It took me some years to find the perfect place for woodworking, but here I’ve found it.
I’ve taken the Basic Course to get my first steps into woodworking and I just had a blast.
Inspiring building and people. Real craftwork.
